Experience

Research

Brittany has performed thousands of hours of research at the National Archives in Washington, DC, the National Records Center in Maryland, the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, local libraries, and cemeteries.  In addition, she has performed research on Danish, German and Polish ancestral lines, as well as, extensive research in the United States.

She has received training on Family History standards, methodologies, research reports, and narrative writing from professors at Brigham Young University for both the United States and Denmark.

Teaching & Consulting

Brittany has taught and guided those performing their own family history research in 1:1 settings and in small groups.  She has taught family history courses for many years and worked as a volunteer at a local Family History Center.  She has experience in public speaking and has given presentation in large conference settings.

Writing

Narrative history writing is of a particular interest to Brittany in bringing to life someone who could easily be forgotten.  Whether it is adding in historical context to a person's story or analyzing a military pension file, census records, tax records, and newspaper accounts to give a glimpse of their standard of living, she is adept at crafting a story to reflect their life.

Organizing & Preserving

While at the National Archives, Brittany helped to create indexes to the 1930 US Census prior to its public release by NARA and created a box listed organizational tool for a record group.  She regularly worked "in the stacks" of the archived material and reviewed and adhered to the preservation standards that protect the records of the United States.

She has scanned thousands of slides, negatives, and photos inserting details into the metadata to have an organized digital record of different photographic media and used archival standards in helping to maintain the original materials.

As a mother of a child with complex medical needs, Brittany has enhanced her abilities to organize records and materials.
